"Animation and Visual Effects - India Awakens"

Dr.Jai Natarajan is “Group EVP–Business Development and Marketing” at Maya Entertainment Ltd., a leading animation production and education company.

Maya’s production studio has been working on international animation and game projects, for end-clients like Mike Young, Chorion, Disney, SCEA and Activision. These projects include “Noddy”, “Cosmic Quantum Ray”, “Toonpur Ka Superhero” and Google Lively. MEL Studio is also producing the animated feature film “Ramayana The Epic” due in 2009.

Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), the academic arm of Maya, is a leading educator in 3D animation. With 60 schools in 35 cities in India, MAAC provides premium training through its Cambridge certified Diploma programs, and currently has over 15000 students on its rolls.

Dr.Jai Natarajan has broad experience in technology and production. He was previously a Technical Director at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM). While at ILM, he worked on lighting, effects and software for "Star Wars: Episode 1", " Perfect Storm", “Wild Wild West”, "Flubber" and "Mighty Joe Young". Subsequently, he worked with various real-time 3D and gaming groups at Sony Electronics Ltd. He relocated to India in 2003, as a co-founder/CTO of Prana Studios. Following this, he was a strategy consultant for several new-media startups and venture capitalists.

Dr.Jai Natarajan holds degrees in Maths and CS from BITS, Pilani, and an MS in Computer Graphics from UCLA. He is a frequent speaker, panelist and columnist in various industry forums including Siggraph & Anifest. He is a committee member of The Animation Society of India and a jury member for 24 FPS, India’s leading animation festival. Jai was recently awarded the “Wheel of Honor” by the Animation and Interactive Technology Forum in India.
